Monument of the victims of The War

Parque Doña Casilda

Nestor Basterretxea expressed his sense of art as follows: “The sculptures give life to the town and the streets give life to the sculptures”. In an artistic career spanning 60 years, he has crossed from one discipline to another (drawing, painting, sculpture, industrial and graphic design, architecture and town planning, poster art, photography and cinema) applying himself to each with great dedication. “Monument to the victims of the war” is a circle that “resembles a discoid funerary stele”. At the bottom, the sculptor has left a space for Blas de Otero’s poem, which was chosen by Bernardo Atxaga.
