Sites and Places
“Sites and Places”, consists of two compact pieces of concrete covered with ceramic tiles. Whilst one rests on its flat base, the other appears to have been knocked over.
The artist presents physical and anthropological relationships with the environment based on the shape of the traditional Basque kaiku, the wooden bowls with handles that were previously used to boil milk or make cheese, which observers find familiar and can relate to. He has transformed and enlarged them, eliminating their function as a container. They have a skin-like covering of repeated circular pieces, revitalising the singular perception of these powerful and symbolic forms.
